Frederick Peacock was the seventh child and fourth son of Hugh and Ellen Peacock. He was born about 1871 in King Township. He appears in the 1881 census with his parents in Brant County, Ontario, and presumably moved with the family to Manitoba in 1882. However, by 1891, Frederick Peacock is in the Vancouver census in District 3, Nanaimo, Vancouver Island:
Frederick Peacock, male, single, 21 years old, born Ontario, parents born in Ireland. Free Church/Presbyterian, General labourer
He is living with a young couple. Henry Cunliffe, age 28 and his wife Catherine.
Fred Peacock, in a later census, claims he went to the USA in 1892, however, he seems to have been in Comox in 1901 (near Courtney) on Vancouver Island. He is by himself and shown as born in Ontario. He states he is of Irish descent, Presbyterian and involved in mining. However, his date of birth is February 17, 1882 making him 19 years old. This, of course, is not correct. However, in Comox there is a 15 year old girl named Ellen Piercy, the daughter of Thomas and Jane Piercy. Her birth registration gives her name as Mary Ellen Jane Piercy. It seems Fred and Ellen met, and in 1902 in King County, Washington State, a Frederick Peacock married an Ellen Piercy. It would seem that the couple eloped.
