Tragic Death (From Bracebridge paper)
Clarence Peacock, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. George Peacock, Macaulay, was drowned at Maplehurst, Lake Rosseau last Thursday while bathing. Clarence, who would have been 20 next month, was a strong lad and very popular with the young people. He was employed on the road construction and went up to Maplehurst last week for a few days to visit friends. On Thursday morning, he went to the bath house and put on his bathing suit for a swim. Sometime later he was missed and a search was made. Three hours later, his body was found in twelve feet of water. The unfortunate lad was evidently the victim of cramps. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon from his late home in Macaulay Township and was largely attended. Interment took place in the Kirk Cemetery. Over two hundred people and over sixty cars were in attendance and many beautiful wreaths and sprays were sent expressing sympathy. Rev. J.S. Smedley conducted the service. The pallbearers were Messrs Frank Dennis, Angus McKinnon, Jr., Gordon Thompson, Clarence McEown and two his brothers, Elmore and Murray.
