A Tribute to a Great Lady - by Brad Hammond

In this final edition, I would like to pay tribute to a woman whose quiet courage and determinaton has shaped the character of three existing generations... In her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, I recognize the capacity for strength, independence and boundless generosity which she fostered every day.

Her home was always a safe haven, a meeting place for family and friends, and a good place to unburden your troubles, share a joke or seek advice on life or love. She was gifted with the ability to smooth troubled waters, or ruffle a few feathers when she damn well pleased, and her voice reminded me of woodsmoke, hard work and laughter.

Marjorie (Peacock) Hammond died this week in her ninetieth year. Godspeed.

.........Three months before her death, Marjorie celebrated her 9oth birthday.
