Hugh Peacock Family Photo - Regina

Photo contributed by G.B., a descendant of Sarah Peacock Beldon. Taken in Regina, Saskatchewan.
Hugh Peacock (d. 1920) is the gentleman.  Back right is Sarah Peacock Beldon.  The woman in the middle might be Hugh's youngest daughter 'Ettie' who lived in Saskatchewan.  The figure on the left seems a bit young to be Hugh's wife.  There was another daughter who lived in Saskatchewan - Ida.

Sarah, Mrs. S. Lount Belden 1876-1961

Sarah Peacock Beldon (left) with her children -Contributed by GB of WA, a descendant of Myrtle Beldon on the right. Muriel, the youngest child (in the front row)was born in 1911/13. This photo would therefore be about 1920

Sarah was the last child of Hugh and Ellen Peacock to be born in King Township, York County, Ontario. Her date of birth was September 19, 1876. Her place of birth is given as Rosetown, Manitoba on her death certificate, however, we know that her parents left Ontario in 1881 after her birth. She appears in the 1891 census with the family in Whitehead, Manitoba.

In 1900, she married Samuel Lount Belden at Whitewater, Manitoba. Both Lount and his parents were born in Canada, according to the 1910 Census for Oregon, USA. He was born in Huron County, Ontario on May 7, 1877 to Jeremiah Beldon and Martha Hawk.

Sarah and Lount's eldest child, Myrtle, was born in Canada; however, they immigrated to the US and were living in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon for the 1910 census. He was an engineer of steam engines. They had three children in this census. They went to Oregon in 1900 (family information), and Chester was born there.
*
Sarah's brother, Fred Peacock, was living in Clackamas, a suburb of Portland, when his eldest child, Hugh Thomas, was born in 1903, and Fred graduated from the Oregon Medical School in Portland in 1905. Fred's second son, Frederick V., was born in Cathlamet, Wahkiahum County, Washington State (on the border of Oregon) in 1906. It would seem that the Beldon and Peacock families were probably in Portland together or living not too far apart for a few years. Oral history reports that Fred delivered a Beldon child.
A daughter of Myrtle Beldon related that her mother told her that Hugh Peacock, her mother's grand father visited them during her childhood. Her mother remembered that he had red hair and a glass eye which was of some interest to the children.

There is a 1905 record of a border crossing between Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, BC by 'Hugh Peacock, 70 years old, care taker, born in Ireland.' This was July 25, 1905. We know that Hugh was a caretaker at the Land Registry Office in Brandon as an older man.
*
Myrtle Beldon's daughter also knew of Dorothy Peacock, daughter of Rev. Thomas Peacock, of Langley, BC. They would have been cousins.
*
In the 1910 census in Portland, Oregon, Sarah and Lount had three children: Myrtle, who was born in Canada and two sons, Chester - 8, and Stanley A. -6, both born in Oregon. Muriel, the youngest daughter, was born in 1911 in Portland.

The family appears in the 1916 census for Saltcoats, Saskatchewan, which is close to the Manitoba border and a little south of Kamsack where Nelson Peacock was apparently living in 1920. The Beldons have four children in this census, and the youngest son, Ralph, was born the next year in 1917 in Saskatchewan. They were farming in Saltcoats.
