In 1861, Hugh and Ellen Peacock were living in a log cabin in
King Township with two young children. He was not farming
at this time, but was a carpenter. Their home might have looked
like the cabin that is still on the 7th Concession of King Township
near Pottageville - without the landscaping. Click on the orange
heading above to view a photo by Andrea Kollo of Springhill
Photography.
The property Hugh and Ellen lived on in 1871 was
Concession VII - Lot 18. The agricultural census shows the
following farmers living on these 200 acres in 1861:
James Page - 50 acres
Cash Value -1000 Value of Implements 100
John McCaffray - 46 acres
Cash Value - 600 Value of Implements 5
Joseph Kinner - 100 acres
