Ellen Letitia Etta was born November 15 in 1880 close to Walkerton in Brant County, Ontario. Her birth was registered by her father, Hugh Peacock February 2nd, 1881. She was the youngest child of the couple and her name is often given as Ettie.
Ettie appears in the census records with her parents three times. In 1881, she was an infant in Bruce County, Ontario, and in 1891 she was with them in Whitehead, Manitoba. Etta was twenty years old and a book keeper in the 1901 census when Ellen and the two youngest children (Ettie and Nelson) were living in Brandon. They had a number of adult boarders at this time - a barber, a fireman and a salesman.
Her marriage to James Henry Temple took place on November 15th, 1905 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. James may have been from Bruce county. There are two
Temple families with sons named James in the 1881 census in Bruce County, Ontario.
The 1911 census for Strassborg, Regina, Saskatchewan has a J. H. Temple family which seems to be James and Ellen. The names are given only as initials. If this is the correct family, James had at least one child from a previous marriage, and two children, a son and a daughter had been born in Saskatchewan since their 1905 marriage. The occupation of the head of the family is 'traveler' and the family is Methodist.
The Temples moved to British Columbia about 1919, according to Ettie's death certificate. Her death was registered by a son, R.N. or R.H. Temple whose address was 2585 Selwyn Rd, Langford, BC.
James Temple died July 27th, 1953 in Victoria, B.C. at the age of 87. His wife's death is registered as 'Ellen Etta Temple' September 20, 1964 in Victoria
at the age of 83. Her faith is listed as Presbyterian and she is buried in Sannich (Vancouver Island) at the Royal Oak Burial Park.
