Henry and Mary E. (Peacock) Byford

Mary Ellen Peacock was born the 27th of May, 1884. She was the second daughter and sixth child of John Peacock and Mary Ellen Oliver and she was born at Falkenburg. She appears in the 1891 census with her parents when her Grandfather Thomas Peacock was living with the family and then in 1901 when she was 16 years old. Also, in this census, was a young man named Harry Byford who was a lodger with the family.

I have been unable to locate Harry Byford in the 1891 census of Muskoka District, but the 1901 census gives his date and place of birth as October 27, 1876 in England. He gave his parents names as Joseph and Ellen Byford when he married.

The BMD website has an 1880 death for a 28 year old Joseph Byford
in Leek, Staffordshire. Henry's brother stayed in England.

Henry and Mary Byford were married in the little church at Falkenburg on April 2nd, 1902. Mary's eldest brother, Fred, witnessed the marriage, as well as 'Caroline' Peacock, possibly a mistake in transcription. It could have been Catherine, the daughter of Robert and Mary (Moffett) Peacock who attended school with Mary in Falkenburg.
